Digital print machines have come a long way since they were first introduced and they will continue to improve. They are a very cost-effective method of printing a wide range of products in colour for relatively short print runs. However, there are some problems to be aware of, mainly colour matching.
Digital presses convert Spot Colours, i.e. a colour with a Pantone reference, to the Four Colour Process, which means that certain colours are difficult to match using the Four Colour Process.
There is also the limitation to the thickness of material that most digital presses can take, usually around the 350gsm weight. So there will always be the need for something more quality driven and that’s where litho printing comes into its own.
